Helping People Purchase, Sell and Rent Homes in the Myrtle Beach Area for Over 45 Years.

Dunes Realty has a rich and unique history rooted in the Myrtle Beach area. It all began because one man had a vision.

W.G. “Billy” Nichols moved his family from Nichols, South Carolina to Garden City Beach in 1969 when he purchased a small real estate company called McElveen Realty (later named Dunes Realty).

It was as if Billy could see the future. He knew the Myrtle Beach area, including Garden City Beach, Surfside Beach and Murrells Inlet, would grow exponentially as a vacation and residential destination in the coming years and even decades, and that Dunes Realty would remain the most respected agency in the South Strand. And he was right.

Starting with a few homes for sale and 20 beach cottages for rent, over the years, the company has grown to more than 900 properties ranging from one-bedroom condos with the perfect ocean view to 7+ bedroom oceanfront summer homes and everything in between.

Billy’s son, Gairy, worked at Dunes throughout his high school summer breaks in the ear ly 1970s in just about every department: laundry, repair, reservations, maintenance, rentals and sales.

In 1979, Gairy became Broker in Charge, and along with partner Rod Swaim and the incredible Dunes team, continued to build the company by following Billy’s simple but powerful work philosophy, “People First.”

Gairy has seen many changes, much growth, and countless families grow up over the years. In fact, many of the clients Dunes Realty serves today are actually second and third generation owners and sellers.

The demand for stunning beachfront and ocean view homes in the South Strand has always been high, but Dunes Realty never lost sight of what was most important: serving their renters, owners and investors.
